Marriage Registration in Thailand (CHINESE-THAI)
Chinese citizens can get married with a Thai citizen in Thailand and they can apply for an affirmation of freedom to marry from the Chinese Embassy in Thailand if they have a minimum 1-year visa. The processing time takes 6 working days.
Documents Required:
Chinese Nationals
- Original passport and long-term visa in Thailand
- Original Chinese ID card
- Original divorce certificate (if you have been divorced)
- Original affirmation of freedom to marry affidavit
- 2 ID cards of Chinese nationals with their phone numbers
Thai Nationals
- Original Thai ID card
- Original house registration
- Original divorce certificate (if you have been divorced)
- Original children’s birth certificate (if you have children)
- 2 ID cards of Thai nationals with their phone numbers
6 Steps for Marriage Registration
Step 1: Book an Appointment at the Chinese Embassy
- – Book appointment by email
Step 2: Apply for Affirmation of Freedom to Marry Affidavits
- – Pick up from the hotel to the Chinese Embassy on the appointment date
- – Re-check all documents and affidavit form
- – Apply for the affidavit at the Chinese Embassy (approximately 2 hours)
- – Send back to the hotel
Step 3: Translate all embassy-issued documents into Thai language
- – Pick up affidavits at the Chinese Embassy
Step 4: Translate all embassy-issued documents into Thai language
- – The notarized affidavit is translated into Thai language by a certified translation service provided by VisaThai.
Step 5: All document certified at Ministry of foreigner affairs
- – We submit the notarized affidavit and Thai translations to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on your behalf.
Step 6: Have the marriage registered
- – Pick up from the hotel and take you district office or Amphur to have the marriage registered. We also prepare the interpreter and witness as requested by the district office or Amphur. After the marriage registration is complete we send you back to the hotel with a small gift from us.
Important information
If you have plans to use the marriage certificate as a legal document in other countries, it is best to have it translated into English or your own language and have it notarized at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs or at the Embassy. The Embassy is not authorized to provide or recommend translation services, but there are various translation services nearby.
Foreign nationals who are married to Thai nationals do not automatically acquire Thai citizenship and will need to apply for a visa at immigration and renew the visa every year.

The Canada nationality can get marriage in Thailand with tourist visa and also can apply affidavit at the Canada embassy in Thailand. The Processing time take 5 working days.
