If you are not a Thai national and wish to work in the Kingdom of Thailand, you or your appointed representatives can apply for a work permit at the Office of Foreign Workers Administration, Department of Employment, and Ministry of Labour. Foreigners holding work permits in Thailand will be obligated to pay income tax annually and renewals of the work permit will be dependent on proof of payment of income tax. If the company sponsoring your work permit is located outside of Bangkok in the provinces, you must apply at the Employment Office of that province.
Applicant’s family members (spouse, parents, and children who are unmarried and under 20 years old) are eligible to apply for a Non-Immigrant Visa (category “O”) and will be allowed to stay in Thailand for a period of 90 days. The 90-days can be extended to a maximum of 1 year, or however much time remains on the applicant’s visa.
Important: Foreign citizens who hold a visa-on-arrival (“ผ30”) for 30 days or Tourist Visa (“TR”) for 60 days need to apply for a change of visa (from Tourist Visa to Non-Immigrant O Visa). The granting of a change of type of visa and extension of stay is at the discretion of the immigration officer, so it is recommended that you apply for a Non-Immigrant B or Non-Immigrant O visa at a Thai Embassy or Thai Consulate prior to arriving in Thailand.
Step 1: Apply for Non-immigrant-B visa or Non-immigrant-O visa
Step 2: Apply for a work permit
Step 3: Apply for a one-year working visa in Thailand, Thai Spouse or Guardian visa
An applicant who receives a Non-Immigrant O or Non-Immigrant B visa cannot work in Thailand until being granted a work permit.
