The recently announced Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a visa designed to make it easier for the modern traveler to live and work in Thailand, i.e. digital nomads. DTV can be broken down into two categories, “Workcation” and “Soft Power Activities”. The spouse and children under 20 of an applicant can also obtain a DTV.
Workcation Requirements (Digital nomad, remote worker, foreign talent, freelancer)
- Passport with at least 6 months validity remaining
- Passport photo taken within the past 6 months
- Proof of home address (driving license, bank statement, proof of stay)
- Recent bank statement showing the date and the applicant’s name with a minimum ending balance of THB500,000
- Employment contract or certificate in their country or professional portfolio showing proof of digital nomad, remote worker, foreign talent or freelancer status
Soft Power Activity Requirements (Muaythai, Thai cooking class, medical, seminars, sports training, music festivals)
- Passport with at least 6 months validity remaining
- Passport photo taken within the past 6 months
- Proof of home address (driving license, bank statement, proof of stay)
- Recent bank statement showing the date and the applicant’s name with a minimum ending balance of THB500,000
- Letter of acceptance from the organization, institute, school or company organizing the activity
Spouse and Children Under 20 Requirements:
- Passport with at least 6 months validity remaining
- Passport photo taken within the past 6 months
- Proof of home address (driving license, bank statement, proof of stay)
- Recent bank statement showing the date and the applicant’s name with a minimum ending balance of THB500,000. For family bank statement, show proof of relationship, i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate, certificate of adoption)
- Personal details of the DTV visa holder
How long is DTV valid?
The DTV is valid for up to 5 years, with multiple entry privileges.
How long can I stay in Thailand without leaving the country?
The limit is 180 days, however, the visa can be extended in Thailand once for another 180 days. After the second 180 days, you must leave the country and you can return on the same visa for another 180 day period or however long is left on your visa under 180 days. There is a small fee paid at Immigration for the extension.
How much does the DTV cost?
The cost as of this writing is THB10,000.
Where can I apply for a DTV visa?
Applicants can apply for the DTV at the Thai Embassy or Thai Consulate in the country where they are employed, or on the Thai E-Visa Official Website.
