Categories of Permanent Residence in Thailand

1. Employment Category

For professionals and business leaders working in Thailand.

Requirements

• Hold a non-immigrant visa with annual extensions for at least 3 consecutive years
• Work Permit history (~3 years) and at least 1 year with your current employer
• Income:
  • ≥ 80,000 THB/month for the last 2 years, or
  • Personal income tax paid ≥ 100,000 THB/year for 2 consecutive years
  • If income is 50,000–79,999 THB/month, applicants may still qualify if they hold a director role and the company has ≥10M THB paid-in capital
• Ability to converse in Thai during the interview

2. Investment Category

For individuals contributing significant capital to Thailand’s economy.

Requirements

• Invest at least 10 million THB in qualifying assets such as:
  • Government or state enterprise bonds
  • Condominium unit(s) in Thailand
  • Fixed deposits in Thai banks
  • Or a combination of the above
• Investments must be made with funds remitted from overseas, with proof provided
• Thai-language interview and background checks also apply

3. Humanitarian / Family Category

For those with close family ties to Thai citizens or PR holders.

Requirements

• Marriage to a Thai citizen:
  • Minimum income of ≥30,000 THB/month (with tax records)
  • Proof of stable marriage and shared household
• Child of a Thai citizen or PR holder:
  • Birth certificate proving relationship
• Parent of a Thai citizen or PR holder:
  • Birth certificate and Tabien Baan (household registration)
• Dependent of a PR holder:
  • Proof of financial dependency
• Must show ability to financially support family and integrate into Thai society

4. Expert / Academic Category

For specialists and academics making recognized contributions to Thailand.

Requirements

• Recognized as an expert or academic in a field aligned with Thailand’s national development priorities
• Typically requires:
  • Postgraduate qualifications (Master’s/PhD) or proven track record in research/technology
  • Evidence of work in Thailand (research, professional contributions, or teaching)
• Endorsements from Thai ministries, universities, or relevant organizations are often required
