When a marriage is registered in Thailand, the couple will receive a marriage certificate written in Thai language. If you need to present the marriage certificate in another country to register your marriage there, then you need an official translation. A certified translator, like VisaThai, will translate the marriage certificate into your language. In order for the translated version to be valid, it must be stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Likewise, when a foreigner goes to a district office (amphur in Thai) to be married, they need to present an affirmation of freedom or similar document proving that they are not currently married. This document must be obtained in Thailand at the foreign national’s embassy. Normally this document will be in English or the embassy’s native language. To be valid for the marriage in Thailand, the document must be translated and stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Some visas, such as a retirement visa, may require that the documents you present to immigration be legalized by your embassy in Thailand. For example, applicants for a retirement visa who are using their monthly income of THB65,000 as proof of funds are required to have the proof of income certified by their embassy in Thailand. Other documents may include proof of address, educational diplomas, certificates or others as may be required by Thai officers. However, not all embassies provide this type of certification. As of this writing in July 2024, the following embassies do not provide legalization/attestation of documents:
